American Pop
-From the Red Carpet to the Blue Collar-
Featuring Regular Hollywood Correspondent Linda Blake
6:55pm ET, Mondays
American Pop is a monthly feature that bridges themes explored in Hollywood with the thoughts, concerns, and struggles of everyday Americans.
In each installment, blue collar insider Linda Blake takes those conversations that most Americans are having 'around the kitchen table' and releases them onto the red carpet….resulting, often, in entertaining consequences! Tune in monthly as Joe Six-Packs and celebrities work side-by-side to take the pulse of American Pop culture.
Linda Blake is a reporter and producer for The Tavis Smiley Show on Public Radio International.
She was raised by her wise-cracking, taxi driving father in the heart of San Francisco's Mission district. Her journalistic ambitions were apparent even at the tender age of 13 when her muckraking prompted then-mayoral candidate Willie Brown to label her a "terrorist." Her response? "No, sir, I'm not a terrorist. I'm a citizen."
Before Linda's foray into public radio, she was the executive producer and co-host of "Harrison on the Edge," a top-rated daily LA-based talk show. During that time, she organized a peace parade in Hollywood featuring a keynote speech by Gandhi's grandson. Approximately ten thousand radio listeners participated in the groundbreaking event.
Linda's other producer credits include national radio shows hosted by Leeza Gibbons and Adam Carolla. And for Air America Radio she helped "The Mike Malloy Show" win, in its inaugural year on the network, a New York Air Award for Best Talk Radio Show.
Linda graduated magna cum laude from NYU with a B.A. in both journalism and psychology. She completed an honors thesis exploring effective multimedia learning which was published in the journal Computers in Human Behavior.
When she isn't busy rousing political earthquakes Linda loves to sing, tap dance, and avoid driving on LA's freeways.
