Rebecca Loebe "Give Up Your Ghosts"

One of my favorite singer-songwriters has been Rebecca Loebe. She caught my attention, like she did millions of others, when she was on the first season of NBC's The Voice.  Much to my chagrin, she was not in the final running.

Mike + Ruthy

Ruth Ungar and Mike Merenda of The Mammals make their home in West Hurley, NY (nearWoodstock) and while they’ve supported their family thus far thru their music career, this recentturn has been a head scratcher. Live shows are still a source of income, but the actual sale ofphysical or digital recordings has become a novelty rather than a mainstay. Rather than stopcreating new work, though, they keep doing it. Why?

The Vindys

The Vindys hail from Youngstown, OH. They brought their unique, high-energy performance to the studio - in an acoustic fashion. Their songs are a mix of old-world pop/jazz standards and soul infused rock.

Part of that massive ball of energy is vocalist, and songwriter, Jackie Popovec.  Hear the story of The Vindys, and a few of their amazing songs in this session.

Brandi Carlile & Chris Wienk

Brandi Carlile has long been a favorite of ours at WEXT. This past year, the release of the magnificent "By The Way, I Forgive You," and her visit to play at the Palace Theatre, we were in heaven.

Our fingers are crossed that Brandi will prevail at the Grammys.  Keep rockin', Ms B!

Constance Hauman

Constance Hauman has one heck of a story to tell. An opera singer, she got to sing on stage with Leonard Bernstein. But that's just the end of a brilliantly told tale of a story with a million moving parts. Constance tells the story, and the story of her music - her travels from apartment sitting for Andre Watts to that famed moment with Leonard Bernstein t0 her art rock pop singer songwriter albums.

Greensky Bluegrass dropped by

The band started in 2000 in Kalamazoo, MI.  Greensky Bluegrass evolved from 3 to 5 members, and the sound they made has evolved over time as well.  We learn a little about that, and about the tongue-in-cheek new album title, "All For Money."  You will enjoy the performances of the new songs and an older one, too.  These guys strip back to the original configuration, and yet they still rock!!

Top 97 of 2018 (pdf)

A Star Is Born
Warner Bros. Pictures

Some years can make it challenging to whittle down the best movies to just 10, but I have to say that it came pretty easily for 2018. With that said, here are my picks, in alphabetical order.

“Black Panther”: Not only a Marvel movie, a marvel OF a movie, becoming something of a cultural milestone.

“BlacKkKlansman”: Spike Lee back at top form as a filmmaker, with the compelling true story of a policeman's Ku Klux Klan infiltration.
